Our Story

Founded in 1984, TypeStart began as a specialist in typesetting and design, helping clients bring their creative vision to life. From the start, our reputation was built on craftsmanship, precision, and attention to detail, laying out everything from magazines and flyers to bespoke printed literature.

Expanding Our Services

Over the following two decades, we expanded into digital printing and print finishing, providing high-quality solutions for both the public and trade. This growth allowed us to offer a complete range of publishing and printing services, making the process simple, stress-free, and professional.

Partnership with Crest Publications

In 2013, TypeStart joined forces with Crest Publications, a company recognised for its expertise in military publishing. Crest had earned a strong reputation for producing official British Army journals and stylish publications for regiments, corps, and training units of the Ministry of Defence. Their legacy of precision and respect for tradition made them the perfect partner to strengthen our capabilities.

Today: TypeStart Crest

By 2024, our partnership evolved into a full integration, and we rebranded as TypeStart Crest a name that reflects our combined expertise. Today, we serve clients across a wide range of sectors, while continuing our proud tradition of producing military publications alongside community magazines, flyers, leaflets, and bespoke print projects.

For over 40 years, our mission has remained the same: to make every project a masterpiece, combining traditional publishing craftsmanship with modern innovation and passion.

Meet The Team

Amy helps editors and advertisers with their enquiries. She also sorts out all the advertising artwork and manages the magazine deadlines. Amy is super efficient, organised and very quiet when she's busy.

Beth will be the first voice you hear when you call us. She works with a variety of Funeral Directors on their Orders of Service and she’s fabulous when it comes to designing greetings cards. Beth has a wicked sense of humour and keeps us all laughing.

Fern always answers the phone in a cheerful manner and loves to work with the team to ensure your advertising queries are answered quickly and appropriately.

Our lovely Steph works hard to sell advertising to help reduce the cost of your publications. Steph has many years of experience in this field and knows her magazines inside out.

Jayne is known for her welcoming manner and fun nature. With many years experience in publishing Jayne works with editors and is the first point of contact for any publishing queries. She is our resident artist, excelling in drawing cows and giraffes!

Super speedy and efficient Dan is brilliant with font recognition and magazine design. Over 20 years’ experience in design and print ensures Dan can work on any type of publication. He loves his football, just don’t ask how Manchester United are doing!

With over 30 years’ experience in print and design, Caroline has a flair for creating eye catching publications. She loves her colleagues and makes sure the office atmosphere is always fun and upbeat!

Not just our brilliant hardworking Director, William is our money man and machine repair guru! Taking charge of our accounts department and compliance, we make him sit downstairs so he doesn’t distract us with his tendency to chat!
